We meet the lovely, luminous, lionhearted, Laura.

Today we meet the lovely, luminous, lionhearted, Laura.

Laura began her powerhouse journey as Green Grouper in 2008. She has come a long way since then, debuting as Camp Leader at the upcoming Camp Diversity. Laura has been heavily involved with the Diversity program since 2009 – “it was my first community camp and whilst I have been to Mirabel and ATLAS it is the magic of Camp Diversity that has kept me coming back.” Along with her time on the Diversity committee, Laura has been a member of the Community Outreach Initiative committee. Other volunteer career highlights include numerous Big Camps, performing in the Pantomime and attending MAX.

In real life, Laura works as a Maths and Science teacher. “I started playing lacrosse this year and absolutely love it! “

“Thanks to Lord Somers Camp and Power House, now I can back myself. Before being a grouper I would blush if you even looked at me. Lord Somers has helped show me that anyone can do amazing things if you put your mind to it and that together you can make the impossible happen. We do it all the time at camp. So when I doubt myself, I make a list (and maybe some coffee) and I get to work knowing that I have so many supportive people in my life to inspire me.”

“As a leader, I have learnt that the best team is one that works together and supports each other. I think it’s also important to remember that people always have the best intentions. It can be easy to judge or make assumptions but if you start with the assumption that people are doing the best job that they can then you’re going to engage with them in a way that is positive and motivating. I think that most people want to feel that they belong and that they are doing a good job and part of being a leader is helping them achieve their goals as much as the team”

We can’t wait to see what magic Laura weaves as Diversity Camp Leader in the coming years!
