Pirates, Popcorn & Panto
Only one more sleep and we will get to again enjoy the hilarity, mischief and creative genius of another Panto. We look forward to seeing our favourite Power House thespians on screen in Pirates of the Pantomime. If you haven’t yet purchased access to the on demand or live stream online performance, it is not too late to get onto Cvent now! The on demand ticket purchase will give you online access to view the performance on Saturday 4 December through Vimeo for a full week. It’s time to get your microwave popcorn and favourite beverage ready to enjoy the expected and unexpected plot twists upon the high seas. Congratulations once again to all the cast and crew who have persevered in the face of so many challenges to bring us this much needed dose of Somers fun.
A Truly Somers Get Well Message
Many members have been reaching out to the Car family this week with messages and offers of support given the recent news of the hospitalisation of Jackson Car (Red 2018). Jackson is the son of Tim and Mel Car and the nephew of Mel Ciardulli. Over the years he has enjoyed many an Easter camp, so the call went out to the program’s regulars to join in a special show of support.
At short notice and despite the torrential rain, hail, thunder, lightning, and the accompanying traffic chaos caused by flash floods, a large group gathered to make some noise and send some love and hold up a banner on the overpass below Jackson’s hospital window. A great example of answering the Somers call and a special mention to Danj and Tyson for their rapid coordination. In true Slush stunt style, the inquisitive members of Victoria Police who arrived were provided with a full explanation of the good spirit behind this public display of support!
Those who know Jackson will know that he is an inspiring young man whose fierce determination has seen him succeed in the swimming pool at state and national levels so he certainly knows how to meet challenges that come his way. We also know that the Car family are a formidable support crew and all are much loved members of our Somers family. We send them all our deepest green, black and white support.
Twists In The Tail
This week I was reminded of a recent comment made by one of our members who has a background in health. This member is one of those providing the LSC&PH COVIDSafe Project Team with some insights into the ever shifting sands of the public health situation. In response to the welcome sense of some growing predictability, they said that they believed that the pandemic “still had a few twists in the tail” that might play out as we transition to living with COVID. The news of the Omicron variant may be just such a twist but we will wait to understand more and continue to keep perspective as we plan for our gradual return to LSC&PH events and activities in 2022.
Until next week,
