A special moment happened recently at Lakeside Stadium as 16-year-old Cameron Myers broke Ron Scharp’s 74-year-old junior mile record of 4.17 on grass, running the mile in 3.55.44.
John Miller recalls Ron’s race day back in 1949 clearly, sharing “He had hardly slept the week before, for as Doc’s runner at Lord Somers Big Camp that week, he had many nightly excursions!”
That day in 1949, Ron took 10 seconds of Roly Staine’s time, while proudly sporting his Power House Athletics singlet.
Thank you to Doc’s fellow 1949 runner, John Miller for the lovely reflection.
