Youth Development Programs

Our four Youth Development Programs cater for a range of age groups and abilities. The uniqueness of our youth programs is they address physical, social, spiritual, emotional and mental development. They also build character, resilience, skills and attitudes of everyone who attends.

The Lord and Lady Somers Camp   (The Big Camp) is our flagship youth program. It enables young people to extend their social skills through sustained and meaningful connections with others. This is outside their usual family and social circle. Graduates of our programs have the rewarding opportunity to take on volunteer and leadership roles in our other youth development programs

empowerme is a one-day interactive workshop for Year 10 students to reflect on their aspirations and help to inspire and map their futures. It's about helping young people evaluate their passions, set goals and learn how they can achieve their full potential. The program is run by volunteers all under the age of 25 and the biggest strength of the program is participants get to see a program run by young people for young people and they love this.

empowerme believes in the power of young people - the future of tomorrow and we can support them today. That the power of dreams helps young people get to where they want to go. And we are passionate about helping them uncover strategies and pathways to reach their goals and full potential. We believe that everyone should have the chance to question about their life, take a moment to step back and reconnect with what they truly want and uncover what they want to achieve.

The program has been running for 15 years and offers students the chance to meet their peers and together spend the day envisioning their ideal future. The day is a mix of inspiring speakers, interactive activities and small groups facilitated by young volunteers. After being in Melbourne originally, in the last few years empowerme has expanded to regional areas. Last year, for the first time, empowerme was held successfully in Geelong, in addition to the Ballarat and Melbourne days.
