Capital works and maintenance continue at Lord Somers Camp, with a clear focus on safety, access, and long-term asset protection. Several high-priority projects are complete, with others well advanced or moving into delivery.
Recent progress includes:
- Completion of the amphitheatre stage bearer replacement, resolving a structural safety risk.
- Completion of repairs to a cracked structural beam in the covered walkways, removing a known hazard.
- Ongoing termite treatment works across Grouper Huts, with invasive works underway and a site-wide annual pest management program to follow.
- Exec Hut toilet replacements and subfloor repairs to address rot, moisture, and health risks.
- Site-wide roof cleaning and lichen removal commencing this week to reduce moisture load and protect buildings and solar panels.
The photos below highlight key works at Light Blue Hut and the Exec Hut. These works focus on improving airflow and subfloor ventilation by opening up baseboards and installing compliant vents. This approach is critical to keeping subfloor areas dry, supporting the effectiveness of the termite treatment program, and ensuring the long-term longevity of these buildings.
Planning continues on several major items. The full replacement of the creek footbridge remains a high safety priority, with additional quotes pending. Early indications suggest the initial quote represents good value. Drainage and erosion works near the kitchen precinct are progressing following advice from a drainage engineer. Tower Hut roof and flashing repairs are scheduled following Big Camp.
A long list of further works is now coming forward. Projects are being prioritised based on safety risk and urgency to ensure effort and funding are directed where they matter most.
A special thank you to Allan Gregory, who leads our maintenance program, to Josh as Camp Manager for his hands-on coordination, and to the Capital Works and Maintenance Committee members for their ongoing guidance and support. Their combined effort continues to strengthen the safety and resilience of Lord Somers Camp.
