About Us

Who we are..
Lord Somers Camp and Power House is a small organisation with a big vision – to create a stronger, more inclusive society through service to others. Our services include many camps, programs and activities held in inner and outer Melbourne and Somers campsite in Victoria.
Since 1929, we have been the quiet achiever of the not for profit sector. We have thousands of stories to tell you about the social impact of our programs. Making a difference to the lives of thousands of people from all walks of life, ages and cultures makes us proud.
We’re governed by an experienced board, managed by a small and dynamic team and supported by a network of 1,400 members and volunteers. The philanthropic support from trusts and foundations and partnerships with organisations is crucial to running many of our community-based programs.
Camps, Programs and Activities
Our programs create fun, friendship, care, acceptance and belonging – it’s our DNA. They also achieve significant social impact, leadership capabilities, empowerment, engagement, well-being and personal and community development.
The courses are categorised into:
- Youth development
- Community development
- Life-long learning
- Positive ageing
The whole person is recognised, making our programs life-changing. We integrate their physical, social emotional, spiritual and mental dimensions through a range of activities. They’re also underpinned by a proven quality framework based on design, implementation and evaluation.
This year, 1,500 people from 15 to 80 years attended over 40 camps and programs in Victoria.
Participants Felt Welcomed
Volunteers increased their leadership capacity
Volunteers felt they contributed value to the community
Volunteers increased awareness about challenges facing participants
Program facilitators and venues
Dedicated program leaders facilitate our programs. They’re selected for their experience, leadership and mentoring abilities. They undergo screening and training to qualify as facilitators. Graduates of our programs are also mentored to become program leaders.
Courses are run at various locations in Victoria. These include the historical Lord Somers Camp on Western Port Bay (one hour from Melbourne) and the Power House at Albert Park.
